Recommended application: turning, general machining
Cutting speed (Vc): 180–280 m/min
Feed rate (f): 0.15–0.35 mm/rev
Depth of cut (ap): 1.0–3.0 mm
Technical notes:
Use medium to positive rake geometry to reduce cutting forces. CVD-coated carbide inserts are recommended for higher wear resistance in continuous cutting operations.
Recommended application: turning, semi-finishing
Cutting speed (Vc): 120–200 m/min
Feed rate (f): 0.10–0.30 mm/rev
Depth of cut (ap): 0.8–2.5 mm
Technical notes:
Select tough carbide grades with sharp cutting edges. PVD coatings help reduce built-up edge and improve surface finish.
Recommended application: turning, roughing
Cutting speed (Vc): 200–350 m/min
Feed rate (f): 0.20–0.45 mm/rev
Depth of cut (ap): 1.5–4.0 mm
Technical notes:
Wear resistance is critical. Use hard carbide grades with abrasion-resistant coatings. Dry cutting is often suitable.
Recommended application: roughing to finishing
Cutting speed (Vc): 160–250 m/min
Feed rate (f): 0.15–0.30 mm/rev
Depth of cut (ap): 1.0–3.0 mm
Technical notes:
For interrupted cuts, select tougher substrates and reinforced edge preparation to avoid chipping.
Increase feed before increasing cutting speed to improve productivity
Monitor flank wear (VB) to ensure predictable tool life
Adjust parameters based on machine rigidity and workpiece hardness
Stable tool wear is preferred over maximum cutting speed
